5 out of 5 stars Great case for the price   April 25, 2010

First off, this is the first case I have used for my iPad, so I'm not saying there isn't a better case out there. For the price though, you can't beat it.

I'll point out one of the major things that worried me about the case, and that is the elastic bands that hold the unit in place. To anyone wondering if they do their job well, they really do. In fact, they hold the unit in so snuggly that I actually have trouble taking it out sometimes. They do their job, and they do it very well.

Another thing I was worried about was wether or not the front flap would have trouble staying closed after long periods of being folded back, much like the official Apple case. I have yet to experience it, in fact, I doubt it will ever happen seeing that the flap is weighted nicely.

Like the other reviewers have stated, this thing wont protect it from a pretty decent fall. It's more so meant to protect from scratches and dirt. In that aspect it will do you well, I have no problem putting this in my bag.

I jab a few cons with the case though:
1. The material inside the flap has a horrible habit if collecting tiniest crumb or spec of dirt you happen to set it in and transfers it over to the screen. It's not THAT big of a deal to me, but people coming from an official Apple case to this may find it aggravating.
2. No type of stand feature. I knew there wasn't one in the first place, but it still would've been nice.

I highly recommend this case, it's easily one of the better alternatives to the official Apple case.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding iPad Case!   April 18, 2010

I was lucky and bought this case when the price was lower (1/3 of the price), but still think it is a steal for $17.99. It is solid, padded, and very classy. I agree with the other reviewer that it does have a very clean look to it, and resembles a leather agenda. I would not hesitate to buy another one (although it will be awhile, as I bought 3 of them). I highly recommend this, you will not be disappointed.

One major plus for me was that I was looking for an leather folio strictly for the iPad, I did not want pockets or any other bells and whistles (I tend to stuff things in the pockets). This is aesthetically pleasing, clean, and fits the bill perfectly!
Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Great for the price; straps can be a slight issue   May 2, 2010

I wanted something basic and this was just right for that, and the price was right. The product arrived with a little warping but not enough to impact its usability.

While it's possible to position the upper right strip in such a way that it interferes with neither the orientation lock or the volume control, in practice it's hard to position the strap just so. A better idea, if this proves a problem for you, is to unhook that strap entirely. Three straps are enough to hold the iPad in place quite firmly.

There was one pleasant surprise. I'd been having quite a bit of trouble with screen smears, the "oleophobic" coating on the iPad notwithstanding. Closing the iPad in this case left me with an unexpectedly clean screen afterwards.

5 out of 5 stars Great temporary or backup case and good primary case. . .   May 10, 2010

I purchased this as an interim case to protect my iPad until my much nicer case comes in when it's made in a few weeks (it's on backorder). I was just looking for something to get me by for a month or so, but was pleased to find that this really is a quality item. The other reviews indicated as much, but you never really know until you get it in your own hands. This has a nice, solid feel to it. The outside of the case is textured faux-leather and the interior is felt-like material as you would find on a jewelry box. The overall impression is one of clean simplicity. This case is very nice for the price, and it is substantially better than the Apple case that is sold for the iPad which is, to be honest, a huge let down.

The best way I can describe this is to point at the Amazon Kindle 2 case. If you are familiar with that case, then you've got an excellent idea of the materials/quality of this case. The cover is firm but flexible, the interior is black and soft to the touch but has an unfortunate tendency to pick up specks of dirt if placed on a dirty surface, the exterior is comfortable to touch and carry, and the whole package is very light and slim, adding little to the overall size. At first glance, this would appear to be a thin and oddly sized portfolio/planner.

This case does not have a "stand" feature to angle the screen up off the flat surface it may be laying on, thus it's not really good for such use. This is the only advantage the first party case has over this one. Other disadvantages are that three of the four sides are fairly exposed. The iPad is held in place by four elastic straps. Everything else not covered by these straps is open to scratches, etc. The good news is that the cover extends a few millimeters beyond the edges of the iPad, making the iPad's sides fairly recessed and kept mostly out of harm's way. Unless you have a habit of sticking your iPad in a bag along with other loose items (say, a purse or backpack), I would think this to be adequate protection. The other slight disadvantage to this design is that if observed from the side, it's obvious that this case is not holding paper, but is holding an iPad or some other such device. Thus it may not be the best camouflage for the device that will be going with many people pretty much everywhere. The up side is that the ports/buttons are easily accessed.

Overall, if you think of this as a slightly larger version of the Kindle 2 case then you'll have a spot-on assessment of this case. It makes for an excellent backup case or temporary case and would even serve full-time duty well if this is what you're looking for. It would be worth it even if it cost twice as much (as much as the Apple case, for example).

5 out of 5 stars Great Value for the Price   May 1, 2010

I was a little hesitant in purchasing this given the price difference for alternative leather cases for the iPad - I think there may have only been one other case, in fact - but I have been pleasantly surprised. I fully expected to buy another case after enough reviews had emerged for all the other products, but I no longer see this case as an interim solution. It is tasteful and functional. My only complaint is that the upper right hand elastic band covers part of the exterior volume control. No biggie, it still operates.

For the money, and if you aren't look for an all-weather, shock-resistant solution, you'll be very pleased with this case.
